Save calories and money

January 28th, 2023 at 05:16 am

I've been struggling to get back down to my preferred weight. Not by a lot, but enough that I have to put in a real effort to lose it. It's a combo of my age (premenopause) and the fact that my job no longer requires me to be on my feet all day long, so my daily steps are very low. I'm addressing the exercise by trying to take more breaks during the day, attending at least 3 paddling sessions a week, and aiming for 2 additional workouts on my own at home.

The easiest way to get to my preferred weight would be to address my eating habits, which can be a little embarassing. I know what to eat, I am very well read on science and nutrition. But when I'm feeling down, or tired, junk food is like a quick fix for me. I've been diligent lately to bring foods to work that taste good and support my goals. And when I do choose to get junk food, I've been choosing the small, kid size at least.

We have also been eating at home most nights for dinner. Eating out is not cheap here, and DW and I got fed up with spending a lot of money for a meal, and just being 'meh' about it. It's not worth it to us for most meals, so we have been making extra effort to have dinners at home. Maybe I'll track that next month, see if I notice a difference on the scale, or in the bank account!

what is "paddling" - I also struggle with too much junk food ... then I met my husband who loves to cook so he cooks good food and then I tend to over-eat. I've REALLY been trying to cut down on the food portions ... just curious .... what kind of snacks do you eat at work? I eat bananas and almonds ... I'm always trying to find an "easy" yet mostly healthy snack ...

one way to stop the junk food is to meal prep for the week that way you can freeze your dinners and take them out daily, and by having your snacks ready which fruits/nuts/yoghurt are great ready to go it makes it a lot easier...doing half an hour of cleaning each day also helps to work off calories...and even walking around the back yard each night will get your steps up...good luck

Good luck to you! I'm on the same path. Really trying to make this year the one I eat healthy -- and exercise. Small portions are a great start!

As we age, losing weight seems harder. Plus trying to get enough steps in or exercise is a challenge I also have.

Eating out here isn't cheap either. But I bet eating at home is far healthier for you. I know it is for us.
